This is the only beauty-related item that I got for Christmas this year...being from an Asian family, I mostly get red pocket envelopes ^^ Sorceress is from MAC's holiday '09 collection and retails for $44.50CA/$36US. I tried doing swatches but I think you'll admit with me that it was an utter failure...I just couldn't get the bottom half of the shadows to show up and my camera wouldn't focus. But here, enjoy anyway :)

Hold My Gaze is suppose to be a dupe for Lancome's legendary Erika F according to Blogdorf Goodman. Of course, I can't be certain since I don't own Erika F, but I have to say that while it's beautiful swatched against my fingertips, I don't swoon over it by any means on my lids. My least favorite colour is Edge of Dark, which is a silver charcoal packed with silver glitter. I hate it because it's gritty and poorly pigmented. (Frankly, I'm surprised it has a MAC label on it...) My favorite of the palette is Hypnotizing, a metallic light purple mauve with a hint of taupe. I have a thing for mauves so this one won my heart :)
With six shadows, each shadow will cost you approx. $7.42CA which is not bad but isn't great either considering you're paying almost $10 more for this palette than the States even though our dollar is almost at par. It's definitely a cool toned palette so if you're a warmer gal, I suggest you skip this one--even I find that Sorceress is almost a little too cool for me when I use all the colors together. It also comes with a mini 213SE brush but I find it completely useless and wish they provide double-ended sponge brushes instead. The 213SE brush balls up all the pigments and it's so hard to get it to adhere to your lids after. (I hate it a lot.) The packaging is cute and pretty. It feels quite substantial and the body is made of a heavier plastic.
Overall, I think Sorceress is an okay palette. If you missed your chance getting it, I wouldn't be too sorry unless you are on a savage hunt for Erika F dupes...and of course, the mauve shade has my heart strung too! :)

Your less than sterling review of this palette makes me so happy that I didn't get it! I was lemming for Sorceress quite a while ago but I felt that it's not worth paying US$ 52 for. I'd rather go for Lunasol or even one of my favourite brands, Maquillage ;D
Yes, buy MQ!!! Don't think you'll regret it. I love my one and only MQ palette to bits =D

Woahhh at least you got a beauty related item (y) I have never anything like that before in my whole entire life which is quite a downer, perhaps people still don't know me as well or I don't speak out of my love for beauty? LOOOL nevertheless they should know!
Sorry went into rambling speech there >_< There's something about MAC's palettes that doesn't really quite draws me in. I find them to be of a not so good quality as of the singles. This is why I would opt for NARS palettes. They are extremely pretty! Need to get one but still thinking if I should shell out my money now or wait a few months till I have some more money and wouldn't feel guilty spending it LOL!
P.S. I still think your voice is really nice!

a very pretty smokey eye palette! i never pay much attention to MAC... somehow this reminded me of NYX smokey eye palette :p not too sure about the quality though :) i'm sure mac is better

I came across the palettes for this collection bak when I was shopping for pressies and you're right it's nothing special and I'm not fond of the packaging either... I don't buy MAC palettes becoz I can never love all the colours in one palette enough...if I loved a shadow colour I'd buy the singles instead coz I know I'd be using it :)
i'm kinda glad i don't really buy into the whole mac collections things now! thank you for the very honest review! :D i just can't justify myself buying a palette when usually i only like one or two colours from it anyway :P
Yeah i have the smokey eye palette from last year the brush that comes with it is useless =/...I was looking at this palette before its looks pretty. haha! all i got for xmas is makeup and money ppl know me too well
it looked so promising in the pan but i agree with you that its ok to miss it haha

hmm i got my Erika F from the lancome counter in the dept store here in mauritius. it was in july/aug or so. i havent seen it as a single eyeshadow, it's always sold out >_< actually i got the Lancome Color Focus Quad in #104 and it's on there. that's from the european line i think. i know lancome usa had slightly different ones? i've heard quad 104 has been discontinued, but things are a bit different here so they might still have it in the store. are you looking for it? if you want i could check if they're still selling it :)
